As a visual artist, I have experience working in a variety of areas, from photography and filmmaking to graphics and web design. This page highlights some of my work, including digital shorts, restored photos, and fake ad campaigns.
Graphic and Web Design
Koenig-Schwartz.com: Together, my partner and I have designed and manage the Koenig-Schwartz domain. I came up with the concept, designed the graphics, and coded the pages that make up my personal subdomain. The site design and graphics are based on my photo of a Kodak Brownie camera. Read more about the creation of this site here.
As the online resource developer for the Learning & Teaching Office at Ryerson University, I am responsible for researching and updating the Resources page for the LTO website. Since starting at Ryerson, I have cleaned up numerous pages, added new resources, and implemented metadata and search capabilities. Below are screenshots from before and after the initial redesign of the homepage (click to enlarge):
I am also responsible for producing monthly issues of Best Practices and The Monthly Digest, newsletters aimed at the faculty and teaching staff of Ryerson University. I design the layout and graphics and research and write the material contained in each issue.
January 2010 marked the inaugural issue of Best Practices. A complete archive of all issues can be viewed on the past topics page.
The Monthly Digest first appeared in June, 2010. It has quickly morphed from a simple email bulletin to a pdf newsletter. A complete archive of all issues can be viewed here
Canadian Club: Your Mom Had Groupies is a participatory fake ad campaign that I started as a way to protest the sexist Canadian Club ad campaign, "Damn Right Your Dad Drank It." I took the original ad as an example and reworked it from a feminist perspective. On the left is the original ad, the middle image is my remake, and on the right is the template I created so that readers could easily create their own ad for the project. The project received 17 additional submissions from readers and attracted the attention of the marketing department at Beam Global, the manufacturers of Canadian Club. "Your Mom Had Groupies" has been featured in Time Out Chicago, Shameless, Racialicious, and the f-word.
Photography
I've been working with digital cameras and photo editing software since 2003. I've recently acquired a Holga and a Voigtlander medium format camera, so I’m gradually gaining more experience shooting on film. In addition to my own photography, I've also restored old photos from high resolution scans using Photoshop.
My portfolio is currently structured as a blog. I wanted to be able keep track of my projects as they developed and to create a record of my progress. Selecting a category below will open that category's page in a new window. You can also click on any of the randomly generated images below to read the entry in which they appear.

I also contribute to Cameracratic, a cameraphone photography blog I operate in conjunction with my partner, Stark Koenig.
Digital Movies
My videos are currently hosted by YouTube. I am working on compressing them so they can be viewed right on this site. Until then, you can view all my digital shorts here, or click on one of the thumbnails below to access a specific video.
Works in Progress:
Shoot the Freak: A Coney Island Memory Project: This summer was Coney Island's last season of operation before being redeveloped. Coney Island holds an important place in the history of New York and in my own life, and so this year Stark and I shot some footage of the rides while they were still open and then after the park had been shut down. Listen to some of the interviews I recorded with my family on the Shoot the Freak website.
A Symphony of St. Jamestown is a movie about the St. Jamestown neighborhood in Toronto. Stark and I are currently in the planning stage. The movie will focus on the sound of the neighborhood, and we hope to begin gathering sound samples this Spring.

Painting and Sculpture
I have worked on paintings and sculpture in a variety of mediums and scales, from miniature polymer clay sculptures to murals occupying an entire wall. Examples can be views on the painting and sculpture category of my portfolio blog. You can also click on any of the images below to read the entry in which they appear.
